By Angela Baker

If you suffer from a wheat intolerance or from celiac disease, you are not alone. One thing that you'll have in common with hundreds of other people is not being able to pick up bread and pastries in the supermarket. With so many delicious things on the bakery aisle and the smell of fresh baked bread, it can actually be torture going to the shops. One way to get around this is to bake your own bread using gluten free gum substitute mixed with a special flour.

What flour contains a natural binding agent that help bread and pastry mixes stick together, But if you can't bake with traditional flour, you can try with corn or rice. These flours are very dry however, and to make them work like normal you should add some xanthan gum. Without the gum your mix will be dry and crumbly no matter how much water you add. So, if your mix keeps falling to pieces, it's because you need gum in it to stick it together.

There is no shortage of flour available for people who are suffering from wheat allergy or intolerance. But as we said before, the gummy texture of the dough cannot be recreated properly unless you buy a gum to add to the mix.

So let's say you are fed up of not being able to enjoy baked goods and pastries you are probably also fed up of doing your grocery shop. So, let's get baking and make some treats at home that you know you can safely eat. A special flour will cost a little more than traditional wheat, but it will be well worth the money you spend.

When you are doing your grocery shopping you will have noticed that there will be a section where you can buy ready made bread and cakes without wheat in them. But they are very expensive and as they are processed and not fresh they are not really worth the high price tag they boast. Cutting down on pastries and bread really is a good idea anyway, so, for an affordable solution, bake your own treats once a week.

If you have ever made pizza dough or bread from hand, you will have noticed the texture as your knead. It will be sticky and bind together easily, this being thanks to the special ingredients found in wheat flour. Take away the wheat from your flour and you will find corn or rice flour that is naturally very dry and crumbly. When you are going to take the time to hand make some treats, you want them to taste just perfect.

Kneading your mixture will become easy when you add a gum substitute to your mixes. Baking with wheat free flour usually means that your mixes are dry and crumbly. But if you add a gum to your mix you'll be able literally recreate anything you find in your bakery aisle right at home.

Cutting out gluten from your diet does not have to be too difficult any more. As an allergy that is recognized, you may also find eating out is easy. Restaurants will offer pasta and bread dishes at affordable prices. This combined with you home baked treats means you'll live a totally normal life.
